Niagara Falls
I took a lot of pictures of the Falls, most of them did not come out so great. I like to think I'm too hip for some place this tourist-y, but really Niagara Falls is pretty spectacular. Although I think Canada has the better deal, it looked like the view from their side was probably a lot more impressive. Tomorrow morning we are riding an elevator down to the bottom of the Falls, where we can a better view of things while getting very wet.
Some of the rapids we saw as we first crossed over the bridge onto Goat Island. The sun was already setting, as you can see, so we didn't have tons of time to get pictures.
Just upstream of the Falls, things start to get a little rocky.
American Falls, the tallest portion.
This is the Cave of the Winds tour, at the bottom of American Falls, which we are doing tomorrow. I'm pretty excited.
The lip of Horseshoe Falls, which is considered the Canadian waterfall. The view is probably better from the other side of the river, too.
You can see more actual waterfall here, but the mist obscures everything else. The flow of the water is actually greatly reduced because the river is siphoned off to generate electricity. It would pretty pretty amazing to see this flowing at full force.
Horseshoe Falls from a bit further back; you can see the Canadian city of Niagara Falls in the background.
Canada from a bit further back on Goat Island. You can't see the Falls, but you can still see the mist that's kicked up.
At 10 PM there were some fireworks over the Falls. I assume they do this every night in the summer. There were hundreds of tourists out to have a look. The fireworks were actually over towards the other side of the river, so you couldn't really look at the Falls and the fireworks at the same time. So no good pictures there. These were really the only fireworks I got this summer though, since July 4 in Houston was a no-go, so it was nice. I took these pictures as we were waiting for the fireworks to start; they were lighting up the water with all kinds of crazy colors. That's American Falls in the foreground.
